Victim Support

A crime or traffic accident can be a traumatic experience.

As a victim you might have to deal with questions, such as:

Slachtofferhulp Nederland (Victim Support, the Netherlands) will provide the answers to these questions. Slachtofferhulp Nederland is not exclusively there for victims. Also others involved, such as witnesses, next of kin, relatives and acquaintances, are welcome. Our help is free of charge.

Victim Support

  • Helps immediately or makes an appointment.
  • Treats everything you say confidentially.
  • Will visit you at home, if necessary.
  • Advice and help are provided by specialised volunteers.

What does Victim Support do?

  • Gives information on compensation.
  • Gives information on legal procedures and insurances.
  • Helps with filling in forms and writing letters.
  • Will sometimes accompany you to the police, doctor, lawyer or court of law.
  • Talks with you about what happened to you.
  • Will refer you to experts, such as a lawyer specialised in injury damages.
  • Will refer you to other social workers.
  • Can (in some cases) put you in contact with fellow-sufferers.

Victim Support is present all over the Netherlands. Victim Support strives to repair, limit and prevent as far as possible the material and immaterial damage that victims are confronted with. In the media, Victim Support acts as an advocate for victims. The organisation stimulates research and lobbies politically in order to strengthen the victims’ position.
